Green and Social Justice
The Green Sanctuary and Social Justice committees merged into the Green and Social Justice Committee in 2015
The Green and Social Justice Committee engages in, and encourages the congregation to participate in, activities that promote action and social justice within our community, our nation and the world. They work to educate congregation members and the public in areas of social concern; to explore ways and means of rectifying social injustices; to sponsor and support groups organized to deal with social problems; and to develop informed leaders to foster a just and peaceful world. The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is its complementary organization at the national and international level.
A Green Sanctuary is a congregation that lives out its commitment to the Earth by creating a sustainable life style for its members as individuals and as a faith community. Sustainable living is about choosing to live in a way that nurtures life, builds relationships, and rejects material consumption as the sole determinant of happiness. The Committee builds awareness of societal environmental issues among UUs, generates commitment for personal lifestyle changes, motivates UUs to community action on environmental issues, builds a connection between spiritual practice and environmental consciousness, and builds awareness of and rectifies environmental injustices.
